Bioceramic MoonSwatch, born from the collaboration between Swatch and Omega, two brands that belong to the Swatch Group company, entered the market. But what made Bioceramic MoonSwatch so eagerly awaited and sought after?
On March 26, Swatch in collaboration with Omega launched the collection of the Bioceramic MoonSwatch model, a faithful descendant of the very famous and sought-after Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch who accompanied Neil Armstrong, the pilot and crew members of the Apollo 11 mission on the first walk of man on the Moon on July 20, 1969. In fact, the iconic watch was the only one to be approved by NASA for use in manned missions in 1965.
The space clock collection.
The 11 models that make up the Bioceramic MoonSwatch collection have the name of hypothetical expeditions to other celestial bodies. This gave way to play on different colors: Mission to Uranus (light blue), Mission to Pluto (gray), Mission to Mars (red), Mission to Venus (pink), Mission to Earth (green), Mission to Saturn (brown), Mission to Jupiter (beige), Mission to Neptune (blue), Mission to Mercury (dark gray), Mission to Moon (black ), Mission to Sun (yellow).
The design remains faithful to the Speedmaster: case with helix lugs, circular pushers and crown protected by shoulder pads to prevent accidental blows. The dials feature the counters positioned on the base of the Swatch chronographs. On the crown we find the Omega logo and the S do Swatch. The hands are made of Super-LumiNova to glow in the dark.
The material.
The brand new Moonwatch was made of Bioceramic, Swatch’s exclusive material consisting of two thirds of ceramic and one third of a castor oil derivative. Another spatial connotation is the use of the velcro strap, perfect according to NASA, to be worn on spacesuits.
Bioceramic MoonSwatch is waterproof up to 3 bar; therefore, it cannot be submerged but resists splashing.
